No other event has helped bring the masses to Park City like The Sundance Film Festival. It debuted in 1978 in Salt Lake City as the Utah/United States Film Festival, focusing on seminars and a competition to draw the attention of American filmmakers. It moved to Park City in 1981, was taken over by Robert Redford's Sundance Institute and hasn't looked back ever since.
This year, an estimated 2,500 films were submitted for consideration to Sundance. Approximately 20,000 people are expected to see screenings of the top picks, as well as offerings from Hollywood.

Sundance is now considered one of the top film festivals in the world, coinciding with events in Cannes, France; Venice, Italy; and Toronto.
